Salamba Sirsasana (headstand) is defined by the yogis as the "king of Asanas."
The multiple physical benefits involve the cardiovascular, lymphatic, nervous, and endocrine system and include the strengthening of the musculoskeletal system, improvement of respiration and stimulation of digestion.
To me the psychological transformation and altered perceptions of the world are of most interest:
perceiving our surrounding space upside-down, contacting the earth with your head while the feet extend to the sky, brings a new awareness of familiar places and of "being in the world"
